Techbits

Greg
Techbits are a brain child of Greg Hess, who initially started them on the Discreet Forum, then moved them here to a permanent home; they are gathered, (chewed up) and processed by Greg Hess and Thomas Bruno, an all around good guys, hardware experts and 3DLuVr staff/contributing authors.

Ace found out some great info for pentium IV users. Seems the latest detonator "nvidia" drivers versions 12.00 and above are giving a 90% performance boost to Pentium IV machines in specviewperf tests. What does this mean? It means that they're's a good chance if you have a Pentium IV, updating your drivers will almost double your viewport performance.

Interesting image captured from a netrendering server using both Gigahertz Thunderbirds and Dual 733 Coppermines. Looks like the Thunderbird performance is all over the place while the intel boxes stay within 2% of each other. Important information to know if your planning on building a rack of 2u servers for netrendering purposes.

Ace is the premier site for unbiased indepth hardware reviews and today he takes a look at the Geforce 3 vs the Kyro II. He looks at the technology in use, explains alot of important questions, and finally compares the two cards. A must read.

10 DDR Coppermine motherboards. Tom goes crazy nuts with reviews once again. Once again DDR isn't showing much of an improvement on intel coppermine processors. Tom does a good job looking at the motherboards, pointing out serious faults in designs, which if unnoticed could destroy your motherboard.

Wearable computers...a new fashion statement. Watch out world, the geeks/nerds/dorks are going to reverse the trends and become "cool."

Amd decides to delay sledgehammer. There are some pretty funny processor names in the article. Like "Barton" and "Appaloosa," My question is...do you want fries with that?

A review of an MSI Coppermine DDR motherboard. Looks like DDR just isn't for pentiums. They just don't utilitze the huge bandwidth increase. Might also be why using rambus in coppermine systems actually lowers performance.

Adobe releases a patch for photoshop which increases the performance of pentium IV systems by 70%. Patch is due out in late May. It will be interesting to see which facets of Photoshop are affected by this patch. Will only the filters be faster? Calculations? Opening large layered psd's? If you have a P4 please give me an email when the patch comes out. Thank you.
