BOXX Announces Support for Dual-Core AMD Opteron Posted by: amigo Source: DMN Date: Thu Apr 21 2005 April 21, 2005 - BOXX Technologies, the leading workstation company offering systems that are as powerful as they are easy to integrate, announces its plans to support dual-core AMD64 technology in its 7000 Series of high-performance workstations and render nodes. Featuring Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, dual-core AMD64 technology is a natural extension of AMDs Direct Connect Architecture, directly connecting CPU, memory and I/O resources as opposed to having these resources accessed via a front-side bus.
BOXX is pleased to be supporting dual-core AMD64 technology in its 7000 Series of workstations and render nodes, says Reese Gautschi, director of marketing, BOXX Technologies. By adding dual processing engines on a single piece of silicon, Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors will provide BOXX customers outstanding performance and shorter rendering times for visual computing applications that support multi-threading and multi-tasking. Further to BOXXs customer-focused initiatives, dual-core AMD technology is expected to run significantly cooler and quieter than competing processors which is a benefit to every customer, delivering better investment protection and a better overall user experience.
BOXX Technologies high-end workstations operating in compute-intensive environments will soon tap into the multi-threading, multi-tasking benefits afforded by the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture, said Pat Patla, director, Server /Workstation Marketing, AMD. Because the processors can better allocate tasks among the two cores, increased overall performance and efficiency can be realized without increased power consumption.
BOXX 7000 Series Workstation and Render Nodes
BOXX workstations and render nodes offer superior performance, dependability and innovation and are optimized for visual computing applicationsfrom 2D/3D graphics and visual simulation to digital video and audio post production. The BOXX 7000 series of workstations will now feature:
Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors 200 Series
Dual NVIDIA nForce Professional 2050 and 2200 MCPs for a high-performance, scalable architecture that provides advanced features for AMD Opteron processors
NVIDIA SLI technology and BOXXs unique dual PCI-E x16 implementation to elevate graphics performance levels
Dual PCIe x16 slots include full x16 speed on each slot providing exceptional dual monitor performance or outstanding performance to a single monitor from
NVIDIA Quadro SLI GPUs
Both 32- and 64-bit computing capabilities (with the availability of Microsoft Windows x64 Professional edition)
Expanded I/O options include SATA 3Gbps and storage for large datasets (up to 5TB internal), multiple chassis options for expanded RAID protected storage and hotswap storage options
