3DLuVr File System Failure Fixed - Up and Running Again :) Posted by: amigo Source: local Date: Fri Oct 01 2004 Last day of September proved to be fun, and my lucky day for all it matters. Around 19:20 EST main file system on 3DLuVr has failed. It is a RAID 5 consisting of 4 SCSI U320 drives, and 2 of them just stopped working (for whatever reason) which brought the entire file system down (RAID 5 requires minimum of 3 drives).
Lucky part comes that I've found out about this failure early enough (2 hrs after it happened) and even luckier part was that in the frantic search for a quick solution I stumbled upon a tool "mdadm" by Neil Brown that allows managing of Linux Software RAID arrays. So if you are running a Linux Software RAID and it ever fails on you don't give up right away, but check Neil's excellent tool, it sure saved me alot of frustration.
