The 2004 Machinima Film Festival Call for Entries Posted by: amigo Source: Press Release Date: Mon Aug 09 2004 New York, NY August 9, 2004 The Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences (AMAS), an organization that provides advocacy, education and community building awareness for the entertainment medium known as Machinima: the art or technique of film making using real-time 3D virtual environments, announced today a call for entries for the 2004 Machinima Film Festival. Sponsored by NVIDIA, the worldwide leader in visual and media processing technologies, the third-annual festival will be held November 6th 2004, at the American Museum of the Moving Image in New York.
The one-day event will include screenings of Machinima films, workshops hosted by Machinima filmmakers, special screenings, talks with award-winning independent filmmakers and seminars about Machinima production techniques. The event will culminate in an awards ceremony where some of the best Machinima filmmakers will be recognized for their creative artistry in this new and powerful entertainment medium that's set to revolutionize the world of animation.
This years Machinima Film Festival is shaping up to be the largest yet said Paul Marino, Executive Director of the Academy. "Machinima is becoming increasingly popular and were looking forward to a full day of events along with a program of all new Machinima works.
Throughout the day attendees will be able to view Machinima works and speak with the respective filmmakers. Machinima is to independent filmmaking as traditional animation is to big studio productions. Machinima gives the writer, the artist, the director freedom to create in a way that has never been possible before... it takes filmmaking to a new level., says Katherine Anna Kang, CEO of Fountainhead Entertainment (www.fountainheadent.com) and director/producer of last years award winning Machinima film, Anna. It not only gives filmmakers a new creative voice, but also expands the types of works that can be produced. Each year the Machinima Film Festival shows off the growth of ideas, technology and creativity and I expect this year to be even greater than the last."
Hosting the Machinima Film Festival for the second year, The American Museum of the Moving Image (www.movingimage.us) provides an excellent place for the festival, with its diverse collection and exhibitions of motion picture, television, and digital arts.
Now its in third-year, this Machinima Film Festival is becoming the definitive event for an emerging group of savvy filmmakers using readily-available technology to tell their stories, said Bill Rehbock, general manager of content development at NVIDIA. Were proud to support this event as it provides a showcase for the creative minds pushing the evolution of 3D entertainment forward.
