Eyematic Unveils Next-Generation 3D Facial Animation Toolset; FaceStation 2 Enhancements Bring Powerful Capabilities to Wide Range of Animators.

SIGGRAPH 2002

SAN ANTONIO, Texas--July 23, 2002--

Today at SIGGRAPH 2002, Eyematic announced FaceStation 2, a major upgrade to its award-winning professional 3D facial animation software suite.

FaceStation 2 integrates Eyematic's patented computer vision technology with speech analysis techniques to dramatically improve the realism and accuracy of the resulting facial animation. This integration also simplifies the creation of high-quality multiple language content and sound-based animation effects. FaceStation 2 includes additional professionally designed, ready-to-animate characters as well as workflow and usability improvements.

FaceStation 2 allows anyone to literally "drive" a fully shaded 3D character in real-time using their own facial expressions and a camcorder attached to a standard PC. No motion capture hardware, physical facial markers or offline rendering processes are required. FaceStation 2 is fully integrated with standard 3D software packages including Discreet 3ds max and Alias / Wavefront Maya.

Prior to FaceStation, realistic 3D facial animation was limited to a handful of high-end projects with the requisite large budgets. This was due to the expensive motion capture hardware and laborious manual keyframe editing and processing involved. Since its launch in April, FaceStation has received recognition throughout the industry for delivering high-end facial animation capabilities to a broad audience.

"Our goal with FaceStation 2 is to bring sophisticated facial animation capabilities to all 3D artists," said Hartmut Neven, Eyematic's chief technology officer. "The tight integration of computer vision and speech analysis technologies provides the highest-quality, most comprehensive facial animation solution available today. FaceStation 2 is capable of operating at all levels of computer animation, including television production, feature films, game development, Web sites and mobile multimedia content."

FaceStation 2 also includes an enhanced version of Avatar Editor, allowing the creation of ready-to-animate characters complete with morph targets by using front and side photographs.

FaceStation 2 is currently undergoing beta testing and will be available for both Discreet 3ds max and Alias / Wavefront Maya users starting next month. The suggested retail price of FaceStation 2 is $1,995 US. All existing FaceStation customers will receive a complementary upgrade when FaceStation 2 is released. FaceStation 1.5 is currently available from resellers worldwide.
