SIGGRAPH 2004 Call for Participation Posted by: amigo Source: Press Release Date: Thu Sep 18 2003 Los Angeles, CA -Sept. 18 2003- ACM SIGGRAPH today announced SIGGRAPH 2004, the 31st International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, 8 - 12 August at the Los Angeles Convention Center, is seeking contributors to all programs. The Call for Participation is available at www.siggraph.org/s2004/cfp/.
"Through our Call for Participation, the SIGGRAPH 2004 committee is seeking pioneers, creators, experts and virtuosos to present their newest achievements in computer graphics and interactive techniques," said Dena Slothower, SIGGRAPH 2004 Conference Chair from Stanford University. "In addition to core topics including rendering, modeling, and animation--where we're seeing exciting new advances in real-time processing, we encourage submissions from new technology and tangential areas such as: human-computer interaction, computer-aided design, computer vision, digital video, robotics, visualization, graphics hardware, and applications such as web graphics, and computer games."
The SIGGRAPH 2004 Call for Participation is looking for both first-time and veteran contributors in three areas: presentations, experiences, and services. The presentations are Courses, Educators Program, Panel & Special Sessions, Posters, Papers, Sketches, and Web Graphics. The experiences are Art Gallery: Synaesthesia, Computer Animation Festival, and Emerging Technologies. The call also seeks volunteers and support for service areas: GraphicsNet, International Resources, and Student Opportunities.
New for SIGGRAPH 2004:
Posters provide a unique venue for research that is still formative or of tributary value to presentations in the Papers or Sketches programs, including:
- Ideas that are interesting and valuable, but of interest to a niche audience.
- Incremental results that are important but don't comprise a full paper by themselves.
- Preliminary results in which the full course of an experiment has not yet been run.
- Partial results that demonstrate proof of concept but have not yet solved all problems.
- The latest new results that weren't available in time for the earlier deadlines.
Poster sessions also provide a unique style of presentation. Unlike the one-way lecturing of Papers and Sketches presentations, poster sessions allow informal personal interaction between presenters and attendees. This is particularly valuable for new research, because it allows contributors to receive feedback and ideas in the early stages of their work. The Poster submission deadline is set later than other submission deadlines to allow maximum opportunity to present your graphic gems. See www.siggraph.org/s2004/cfp/posters for submission information.
The popular 5k award competition for excellence in web design and production will be part of the SIGGRAPH 2004 Web Graphics program. The 5k competition challenges web developers to create the most innovative and stimulating work possible in less than 5,120 bytes. Entries can include virtually any client-side technology in use on the web, including Flash, DHTML, Java, SVG, X3D, and weirder things that you need plug-ins for. For details, see www.siggraph.org/s2004/cfp/web.
The Exhibition
By its very nature, SIGGRAPH attracts an exclusive group of buyers from around the world, across all facets of this expanding technology. Much of the research in computer graphics is exploding into everyday products that are vital in today's technology-hungry culture, both on the job and at leisure. Organizations that offer products and services used in computer graphics and interactive techniques will participate in the SIGGRAPH 2004 Exhibition, 10 - 12 August.
ACM SIGGRAPH, the leading professional society for computer graphics and interactive techniques, sponsors SIGGRAPH 2004. Information on ACM SIGGRAPH membership and other conferences and activities can be found at www.siggraph.org.
