Caligari Announces gameSpace
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Thu Sep 04 2003
Mountain View, CA - Sept. 4, 2003 - Caligari, award-winning producer of 3D modeling and animation software, will preview its latest product offering, gameSpace, at the Xtreme Game Developers Xpo to be held here Sept. 6, 7. According to early beta testers, gameSpace is a "killer" environment for creating all kinds of characters and mods for popular game formats including Quake 2, Quake 3 and Unreal.

Offering a unique first-person-perspective modeler environment, a full suite of design tools, import/export utilities for multiple game formats and content libraries, gameSpace provides everything needed for start to finish game content creation. The immersive first-person-perspective environment will be instantly familiar to game players, enabling them to very quickly create stunning, professional-level graphics in a fraction of the time and cost required in traditional 3D design software.

"This is what the independent game developer's community has been waiting for," said Andre LaMothe, CEO of Xtreme Games LLC, and author of more than 50 books on 3D. "It's powerful, it's affordable and it's flexible. gameSpace means that you don't need the resources of a huge studio or company behind you to create a really beautiful game."

"No one wants to trade off power for price," said Roman Ormandy, founder and president of Caligari. "You shouldn't have to cobble together a bunch of shareware products or fight your way through a hard-to-learn interface. With gameSpace you can have it all. It's a great equalizer. Anyone with talent can create beautiful content quickly, with great precision and export it to their game of choice. Whether you are creating a demo or producing a commercially viable game, gameSpace provides a great start."

Modeling, texture and animation capabilities in gameSpace are provided through a game-optimized version of trueSpace 6.6, Caligari's popular 3D modeling product. Import/export utilities are provided for most popular game engines providing developers with the freedom to develop and reuse content for multiple titles, with absolutely no restrictions. Modeling features include polygon modeling/point editing for in-game content and Subdivision Surfaces for producing high polycount versions.

gameSpace includes a high-quality rendering engine that, unlike competitive products, supports full rendering to any image size with no watermarks, for production of promotional artwork, background images, beauty renders, 2D sprites, etc. Images can also be rendered using advanced procedural shaders turning gameSpace into a powerful texture creation tool. Finished textures can then be placed back onto 3D models with precision, control and flexibility using included texture-mapping tools.

Animation tools include IK and "bones" to enable precise control over joints with realistic movement. gameSpace also includes a powerful non-linear editor, greatly simplifying the creation of complex animation sequences.

gameSpace will be available in late September for $299. To buy or find more information on gameSpace contact Caligari at 800-351-7620 or visit the Caligari website at www.caligari.com.
