Worley Laboratories has released an update to the William H. Taft Collection, a set of plugins for NewTek LightWave. The new 2.0 version includes major enhancements to four of the six plugins in the collection. It's available now as a free update for Mac OS X and Windows.

The Taft Collection includes six individual tools for LightWave, including Camera Match, which is designed to match photographs with LightWave's camera view; Sticky Front Projection, which allows for image-based rendering for moving around photographic scenes in LightWave; Whirley Points, which offers real-time soft dynamics; Tracer, a tool for launching projectiles; HeatWave, which generates hot water vapor distortion effects; and Hoser, which is designed for adding flexibility to hoses, ropes and the like without the use of bones or IK.

The new version includes new moveable windows for all of the tools, as well as non-modal windows for Hoser, WhirleyPoints, Tracer and StickyFP. These four also gain several functional enhancements.

New features in Hoser include:
-Support for multiple control nulls;
-Slide distance limits;
-Smoothing options;
-Ability to extrude along the length.

New features for WhirleyPoints include:
-OpenGL window can be toggled on and off;
-Pick map point selection;
-Enhanced wiggling;
-Drooping support.

New Tracer features include:
-Ability to pick multiple guns at once;
-New gravity option;
-Faster rendering;
-Animatable shot attributes;
-More compact interface.

New features in StickFP include:
-Alpha channel support;
-No need to render before freezing;
-Render camera choice.

Other new features are documented on Worley's Web site. The new version is a free update for 1.x users. The full version runs $149 through Aug. 22, after which it will sell for $199. For more information, visit http://www.worley.com.
