 Date: Mon Aug 11 2003
Sunnyvale, CA --Aug. 11, 2003-- AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced its AMD Athlon(TM) 64 Processor Animation and Digital Film Contest, a global search for the best non-commercial animation and digital short films. Eligible participants can submit their work in one of two categories, "Digital Cinematography" or "Computer Character Animation," for a chance to win one of two grand prizes. Each grand prize winner will receive a desktop system based on the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processor and $6,400 cash. The AMD Athlon 64 processor is designed to provide an astonishing, true-to-life digital entertainment experience and enable the film and animation communities to create new worlds with ease.

"The upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processor will give digital content creators and film artists incredible power to add remarkable detail and generate extremely lifelike characters, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in stunning visual worlds," said Rich Heye, Vice President and General Manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD. "The AMD Athlon 64 processor is designed to take digital film and animation to the next level, enabling users to experience true-to-life digital entertainment."

Eligible participants are invited to submit original 30- to 45-second, animations or digital short films for consideration. Six semifinalists will be selected (three in each category) by AMD and a panel of experts. These six submissions will be re-rendered by AMD on an AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system at the conclusion of the contest. AMD also plans to showcase the six semifinalists at AMD Athlon 64 launch events around the world on September 23, 2003. Contest information and official rules can be found at www.amd.com/animationcontest.

The AMD Athlon 64 processor will launch on September 23, 2003 and is expected to be the industry's first and only Windows(R)-compatible 64-bit PC processor. Providing access to unprecedented software performance for current applications and designed to run next-generation software, the AMD Athlon 64 processor will enable users to experience movie-like gaming and prepare for a new world of 3-D interactive games and digital media.
