Newtek updates LightWave3D to 7.5c
Posted by: amigo
Source: Newtek website
 Date: Sat May 17 2003
The 7.5c release is a maintenance update only. The update addresses a number of issues for both platforms but does not add features beyond those provided in 7.5b. The 7.5c update also addresses a feature parity issue by bringing three plugins to the Mac OSX version which had previously only been present on the Windows and Mac OS 9 versions due to a source code difficulty.

7.5C Feature Summary

Plugins added to Mac OSX version in the 7.5c release:

These plugins were present in Windows and OS 9, but had not been compiled for OSX, due to source code issues.

Reduce.p: Reduce-Polygons - analyze the model to reduce the number of polygons using parameters entered by the user

PointReduce.p: Reduce-Points - analyze the model to reduce the number of points using paramemters entered by the user

Ground.p: Rest_On_Ground tool - rest the selected polygons on a defined ground plane, where X, Y, or Z is zero.

7.5c offers the following additional features over 7.5a, on both Windows and Mac platforms:

* New plugin in Plugins/Utility - dvview.p: DV View provides a new view option on the Render Options panel, preview render out of a firewire port to a DV device.

* New plugin in the Plugins/Animate folder - Splinamate.p: Animate an object in Layout with a spline control. Great for hoses, tentacles, etc. SplineControl does not have a button on the interface by default - you can add the button using the Edit Menus option under the Layout button.

To use Splinecontrol:

- Select the object.
- Activate under deformations, SplineControl.
- Choose how many 'nodes' you want (you can change this later)
- Use the "SplineControl" button you added on the interface to activate and move the nodes around.
- Options include Stretch or not to stretch, and autokey enable for setting keyframes for the moved nodes.

* New plugin in the Plugins/Utility folder - Flare2Alpha.p: now a plugin instead of an lscript - greatly improves speed.

* New option on Surface Editor Shader Tab - SurfMixer: Shader that allows the blending of two existing surfaces. Blending can be controlled with keyframe envelopes and texture maps.

* ScreamerNet for Linux - a render node for use on Linux OS systems. Command operation, once the nodes are installed, is similar to previous multi-platform render farm setups. See the "Linux Readme" section below for details on setup and operation. Please note that many third party render-time plugins have not been compiled for Linux, and the Linux render node will not be able to properly render scenes using such plugins.

* New Gradient mode, "Surface Thickness", useful for control of translucency and other elements for which you need to simulate subsurface characteristics.

* LScript 2.6.1 -- see the release notes at:
