Maxon Computer Ships Cinema 4D R8 Posted by: amigo Source: Press Release Date: Thu Oct 31 2002 Cinema 4D users will be happy (gee today is a real happy day, first Softimage and now Maxon) to hear that Cinema 4D R8 has started shipping today. It's now only a matter of time when your upgrade arrives at your doors...
MAXON - October 31, 2002 - MAXON today announced the first customer shipment of CINEMA 4D R8, the much-anticipated upgrade to its flagship professional 3D modeling and animation software that offers high-end features at a price real-world users can afford.
CINEMA 4D has always been the easiest to use package for 3D content creation, with its rock-solid stability and incredible display and render speed, and now MAXON has placed CINEMA 4D Release 8 firmly in the centre of the 3D market with a dramatic redefinition of the product range, both in power and price.
Release 8 contains hundreds of new features and product enhancements, as well as a new modular paradigm that allows customers to purchase only what they need right now and then expand their 3D toolset as and when the work demands and the budget allows.
It all begins with CINEMA 4D R8, an extremely robust and feature-packed 3D system at a truly affordable price. From there users can enhance specific areas of workflow with additional modules. Initially seven modules will be made available: Advanced Render, Pyrocluster, MOCCA, Net Render, Dynamics and BodyPaint 3D. Modules can be added individually or be purchased in two value-added bundles; CINEMA 4D R8 XL Bundle and CINEMA 4D R8 STUDIO Bundle.
CINEMA 4D Release 8 offers more than just modularity. Hundreds of new features have been added and nearly all areas of CINEMA 4D have been enhanced: modeling, animation, rendering and especially workflow have been vastly improved.
It all adds up to the most powerful, the easiest-to-use and, quite simply, the best value-for-money 3D package out there - a breakthrough in the way people use and think about such software - that's 3D for the real world.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
CINEMA 4D R8 is currently shipping to european customers, and will be available through MAXON distributors worldwide in mid-November. Pricing starts at $595 USD for the CINEMA 4D R8 application. The XL and STUDIO bundles retail for $1695 USD and $2495 USD, respectively. Current users of CINEMA 4D XL R7 may upgrade to CINEMA 4D R8 XL Bundle for $495 USD.
All prices exclude VAT. Regional pricing may vary, and can be obtained from the local MAXON distributor.
Highlights of CINEMA 4D Release 8 include:
Workflow Improvements
3D artists know that fast, easy workflow is the key to meeting deadlines and beating the competition. With R8, MAXON has added even more non-modal managers and improved the already robust OpenGL support to achieve the fastest workflow possible. The addition of a powerful Attribute Manager gives users the ability to make easy and quick adjustments to parameters and provides all the options for the currently selected items right at their fingertips.
New Modeling Tools
Numerous user requests were taken into account when adding to CINEMA 4D's already powerful modeling arsenal. At the top of the list were edge modeling and selection tools; advanced edge selection tools, edge ring and loop functions, as well as edge extrude and edge bevel functions have been added. CINEMA 4D's HyperNURBS sub-division surfaces technology has been extended to support point and polygon edge weighting. Edge selections can now be converted to splines. The tube primitives have been enhanced and an AtomArray object added, as well as a new spherify object deformer. Railspline modeling now allows the use of up to four splines to create skinned shapes out of spline profiles. And, spline deformers can be used to deform underlying geometry and be animated for facial and lip-synching animations.
Lighting Inclusion/Exclusion
Light inclusion and exclusion have been added to R8, giving artists the ability to pick and choose where, how and on what objects light objects will affect a scene. This highly requested feature lets artists cheat the rules of physics to achieve the look they want with less effort and in less time.
XPresso
XPresso is CINEMA 4D's new node-editor, which allows users to visually build expressions and entire scripts, through the drag, drop and configuration of "box-like nodes. Control groups can be built from combinations of objects and modifiers in this system then saved, loaded and reused in even more complex setups. XPresso can be used in conjunction with the Thinking Particles module for amazing particle effects and with Mocca for advanced character animation.
F-Curves and F-Curve Manager
A brand new F-Curve Manager (for organizing display lists of curves) and F-Curve Editor (for manipulating curves) replaces CINEMA 4D's old Timecurves, and Spacecurves. The new controls provide a greater degree of freedom and faster modification of keyframes. Curves and keyframes can be displayed relative to each other for optimum workflow. Curves can additionally be shared by multiple objects and controlled easily through the F-Curve Manager.
Rendering Enhancements
CINEMA 4D's rendering engine is legendary for incredibly fast results and stunning image quality. R8 renders as much as 40% faster than previous versions and takes advantage of several innovations in CPU technology (such as Hyperthreading). MAXON has also improved its already unmatched multipass rendering which offers the ultimate integration with Adobe's After Effects and Photoshop.
Mocca
This new module works together with CINEMA 4D R8's powerful Attribute manager and XPresso tool to provide a simple and easy interface for most character animation tasks. Mocca's Soft-IK system supplies a framework for advanced character rigging that can be affected by dynamic forces. PoseMixer, Pose2Pose and MoMix are powerful new tools that allow you to interactively morph and animate transitions between different character animation. The Cappucino tool captures animation in real time as you play your scene, while a keyframe reduction tool helps to clean up motion capture data for further editing. Mocca's rigging tools allow the easy setup of bone chains and provide a quick solution for splitting and mirroring bones. There's even a simple method for painting the influence of individual bones on your mesh while displaying the overall influence of all bones.
Thinking Particles
CINEMA 4D R8's Thinking Particles module provides highly advanced particle effects that can be controlled through object and particle interaction. An abundance of XPresso nodes provide complete control over your particle effects. Object-based emission, collision and animation combine with other particle effects to create truly stunning visual effects.
