CG Toolkit's first release comes in the form of a training DVD for digital character artists titled The Making of Leon. The DVD follows, in detail, the process of creating a film quality digital creature from a clay statuette to the finished animation rig inside Alias Maya 6.0. The Making of Leon includes over 10hrs of footage spanning 3 DVDs. Included on the DVD is a full commercial version of Muscle TK, the world's first muscle and skinning plugin for Alias Maya 6.0.
Leon utilizes the latest in digital character technology. Users will see how to take advantage of Maya's subdivision surfaces through the use of wrap skinning (a common technique with high-detail creatures). Leon comes complete with a super high-resolution displacement map generated from the laser scanned clay model. With, The Making of Leon, users will see not only how an advanced creature is created, but also how it can fit into a production pipeline. With special emphasis paid to creating intuitive rigging controls, users will learn how to create a solid creature rig. A mel based facial pose-library is included along with a video lecture showing exactly how you can make your own. A custom-built muscle deformer comes with the DVD that will greatly help with the creation of realistic influence objects.
CGToolkit's Muscle TK muscle and skinning plugin for Maya is included on the DVD. Developed under the Alias Conductors program, this plugin was designed to replace Maya's smooth skinning in favour of a more anatomically correct skinning system. MuscleTK skin reacts dynamically to the underlying muscles and bones creating a more realistic deformation.
Availability
The Making of Leon is available for sale November 1st and retails for $149.00 US. Muscle TK can be purchased separately for $99.00 US. The Making of Leon comes in a 3 DVD box set.
