Meta Motion Introduces New Gypsy Motion Capture Systems
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Tue Aug 10 2004
Los Angeles, CA Aug. 10 2004 Meta Motion will be introducing the Gypsy Gyro-18 and Gypsy 4 motion capture systems will at SIGGRAPH 2004. Meta Motion is the exclusive North American distributor for Animazoo's Gypsy systems.

In a groundbreaking demonstration, Meta Motion and Animazoo "will break the multi-person mocap record" capturing five actors simultaneously in real-time at SIGGRAPH. The actors wearing Gypsy systems (Gypsy Gyro-18, Gypsy 4 and Gypsy Torso) will be able to freely move about the convention floor with no occlusions or marker swapping, demonstrating actions impossible on any other system (hugging and touching, etc,).

"Gypsy makes multi-character motion capture easy and affordable," said Dickholtz.

Gypsy 4 is the world's lowest priced full-body wireless mocap system and offers exceptional real-time performance and ease of use. The systems have a wireless range of up to a third of a mile outdoors or 200 yards indoors and can be used with optical systems in a Gypsy Hybrid configuration to greatly extend the number of actors captured in real-time.

Gypsy Gyro-18 employs inertial sensors (solid-state gyroscopes) for unmatched accuracy of capture of all the nuances in an actor's performance. The Gypsy Gyro-18 can also be used with optical systems, allowing optical systems to capture an unlimited number of actors at the same time.

Weighing only four pounds, the Gypsy Gyro-18 fits easily into a briefcase and provides data that is much cleaner than any other capture technology available. The captured motion is more lifelike than other technologies because the systems use tiny solid-state gyros to measure the exact moves of the actor's skeleton, rather than needing to reconstruct bone rotations from marker positions.

Priced at $20,000, the Gypsy 4 is the lowest priced real-time mocap system ever. Its new design weighs only eight pounds, is easier to wear than ever before and is ideal for smaller game companies, live events, live-to-air broadcasts, robotic control, and educational use.

"The Gypsy product line is now complete with systems available for all applications and all budgets," stated Dickholtz.
