Alias Releases Maya Personal Learning Edition 6
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Tue Aug 10 2004
Los Angeles - Aug. 10, 2004 - Alias announced today that it is releasing the next version of its highly popular Maya(R) Personal Learning Edition software: a version of Maya, which provides free access to the software for non-commercial use. Maya Personal Learning Edition was designed for graphics and animation students, industry professionals, and others interested in breaking into the world of computer graphics (CG). The software, which is now available for free download at http://www.alias.com/mayaple, contains almost every feature found in the full commercial version of Maya(R) Complete 6 software including new character animation technology, Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) software integration, enhancements to modeling and dynamics, and numerous other features. Moreover, version 6 will be the first release of Maya Personal Learning Edition to include mental ray(R) software and the ability to preview vector rendering.

"With more people interested in exploring computer graphics and more creative professionals adding 3D to their traditional 2D workflows, the popularity of Maya Personal Learning Edition has skyrocketed," stated Chris Ruffo, industry marketing manager at Alias. "To date we have had over 650,000 Maya Personal Learning Edition registrations. One of the reasons the software has been so incredibly well-received is that we are continually listening to the feedback from our users: that is why we offer the world-class mental ray for Maya renderer, vector rendering previews, and an improved watermark in Maya Personal Learning Edition 6."

The Maya Community

Central to the Maya Personal Learning Edition experience is the web-based Bronze Membership program -- http://www.alias.com/community -- that provides access to valuable Maya learning resources to help users meet their specific learning requirements. This free, newly-launched Membership program offers downloadable files; project-based, online Maya lessons and tutorials; a peer-to-peer discussion forum; and subscription to a monthly Alias newsletter.

Maya Personal Learning Edition users can also take advantage of the recently launched Maya Silver Membership program which was designed to give them more opportunities to accelerate their Maya learning, make industry contacts and keep abreast of the latest computer graphics industry developments. Members get easy, online access to a wide range of Maya learning resources. These educational tools -- in-depth tutorials; real-project-based learning materials; the Maya Mentor interactive, learning plug-in; and Weblogs from experienced Maya users - are available through a monthly or annual subscription to the Silver Membership program.
