SplutterFish unveils Brazil Rendering System r/s 1.0 at SIGGRAPH 2002, offering uncompromising rendering quality for Film, Broadcast, Architectural and Product Visualization, Design Engineering, 3D Cartoon-style Animation and CG Research Industries.

San Antonio, TX (July 22, 2002), --

At SIGGRAPH 2002, SplutterFish, LLC, a high-end 3D software solutions provider, today announced the launch of its Brazil Rendering System v1.0. Brazil r/s is an advanced, fully-integrated rendering suite for Discreets top-selling animation software 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ, Autodesks visualization solution. Brazil r/s v1.0 is scheduled for release in August 2002.

At SIGGRAPH SplutterFish representatives will demonstrate Brazil r/s 1.0 and be available for questions in the Discreet booth (#8062) everyday from 3:00pm - 4:00pm. SplutterFish will also present two Discreet mainstage shows Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 14 at 11:00am.

About Brazil r/s

Brazil r/s is designed by and for production professionals. It offers uncompromising image quality and addresses the need for the natural, streamlined workflow that CG artists demand. Brazil r/s' advanced feature set includes: camera and film effects, motion blur, depth of field/bokeh lens simulation, sophisticated filtering, anti-aliasing, and highly-evolved illumination and shading models including super-fast raytracing, over-the-top photon mapping/caustics, task-specific accelerators and shaders, global illumination, non-photoreal capabilities, and support for all the standard artistic "fakes." Brazil r/s also handles 3ds max scene files natively and is compatible with out-of-the-box and third-party 3ds max plugins.

"Brazil r/s 1.0 sets a new standard for rendering quality and performance. It allows artists to achieve their goals, unhindered by cumbersome UI, feature limitations and trade-offs," says SplutterFish CEO Scott Kirvan. "In our ongoing beta sales program, our customers frequently contact us to express their amazement and gratitude for such a powerful tool. Many stated that even their clients have noticed the superior quality. We're confident that the commercial release next month will bring this level of satisfaction to artists worldwide."

"Brazil r/s is more than a just a set of advanced features and applied CG theories. Serious production requires a renderer to be a stable, efficient workhorse designed on a solid, yet flexible foundation," says CTO Steve Blackmon. "From the ground up, Brazil's hardware resource pipelines--memory, processing--were meticulously engineered to handle complex scenes and large data sets reliably, in reasonable time. As a scene gets more complex, Brazil r/s becomes more efficient, resulting in low memory overhead and a resource utilization curve that flattens as more complexity is added."

Endorsement for Brazil r/s

As a late-stage beta product, Brazil r/s has already been used by scores of production professionals around the world for a wide range of film, commercial broadcast, architectural and product visualizaiton projects. One early adopter is Illume, a Seattle-based multimedia development company that provides pre-viz support/animation for civil engineering, architectural and medical firms.

"The three main features that first attracted us to Brazil are its stunning image quality, comprehensive feature list and its ultra-fast raytrace engine," says Matt Fleming, owner of Illume. "Illume does lots of match moving work and Brazil offers us the tools to create photo-realistic imagery that blends seamlessly into photos and digital video. Also, the Toon shader is extremely flexible and has many unique features perfectly suited to our engineering visualizations. However, it was Brazil's overall jaw-dropping image quality that was the ultimate clincher for us. Brazil's performance in the production environment has been nothing less than stellar."

Licensing and Availability

Brazil r/s Version 1.0 is scheduled for widespread commercial release in August 2002. It fully integrates with Discreets 3ds max 3, 3ds max 4, 3ds max 5 animation software, and Autodesk's visualization software VIZ. SplutterFish is currently licensing the beta version of Brazil r/s to both individual artists and production facilities at the following introductory prices:

-- The "Artist Bundle" includes one Brazil r/s workstation license and two render node licenses at a cost of $1200(USD).

-- The "Renderfarm Bundle" includes four render node licenses at a cost of $750 (USD).

SplutterFish licensing is per computer, and a node covers a computer with up to four CPU's.

Brazil r/s v1.0 will be available for purchase online at the SplutterFish web site or through SplutterFish sales. For sales info, contact SplutterFish at "[email protected]."
