IRIDAS Releases FrameCycler Multi Platform (Linux/Win32)
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Wed Apr 07 2004
Munich, Germany - April 7, 2004 - IRIDAS, a pioneer in digital intermediate technology for the film and animated content creation industries, today announced the release of the FrameCycler Multi Platform (MP) product line. FrameCycler applications are the standard for uncompressed, high-resolution frame sequence playback. IRIDAS originally developed FrameCycler for Windows operating systems. The new FrameCycler MP allows for a complete digital intermediate infrastructure in mixed environment facilities, and adds new features to the existing FrameCycler tool set.

FrameCycler MP was rebuilt from the ground up with input from the world's leading postproduction facilities. "With FrameCycler MP we have taken the proven FrameCycler architecture to a new level" said Michael Gallo, IRIDAS Vice President of Research and Development. "Not only is the application lean and very fast, but we were able to create a core architecture which is platform independent. FrameCycler MP provides a glimpse of the promising future of IRIDAS Digital Intermediate technology."

Alongside playback features already familiar to FrameCycler users, such as scrubbing with sound, A/B channels, Quick Compositing, and others, FrameCycler MP introduces support for 3D LUT-based film color calibration systems and the capability to play back playlists with grading parameters attached from the IRIDAS SpeedGrade color correction system. New powerful tools include an Interactive Zoom Window, which can be moved around the screen to magnify and examine specific regions of interest in real-time.

"FrameCycler MP is the best solution for viewing frames with synchronized sound on Linux", said Gregory Brauer, Chief Technical Architect at Wild Brain in San Francisco. "The extensive command line functionality is key. FrameCycler can easily be integrated into workflows with other production tools or used as a component of a digital dailies system."

The FrameCycler MP product line includes FrameCycler MP Professional, RAM-buffered playback application targeted at animators, compositors and other artists who work with animated content. FrameCycler MP Digital Daily System (DDS) streams frame sequences directly off a fast disk array and is ideal for screening rooms and power users who require playback of long sequences or entire movies.

Supported platforms include RedHat 7.3, RedHat 8/9 as well as Windows 2000/XP. A MacOS version will be introduced later in the year. Further information about FrameCycler MP, other IRIDAS products, and academic pricing can be obtained by visiting www.iridas.com or calling IRIDAS at +49 (89) 330 40 982.

IRIDAS will be demonstrating its products at the NAB Exhibition in Las Vegas, April 19 through 22. Demos will take place at the following IRIDAS partner booths: ARRI (Booth C9128), DVC/Kinoton (Booth C 2159), Miranda (Booth SU10129), and D2Software (Booth SL5211). In-depth demos can be arranged at the IRIDAS suite by contacting [email protected].
