Worley Ships FPrime - Interactive renderer for LightWave 3D

Worley Laboratories has started shipping FPrime, a rendering engine for NewTek LightWave. The Windows version was released late Friday; the Macintosh version had been delayed owing to a last-minute bug, but it's available now as well.

FPrime is a rendering engine that provides interactive rendering within LightWave. It both both final render and real-time rendering during the production process, with the ability to handle high-polygon objects, dozens of lights, depth of field, radiosity, transparency and reflections directly in LightWave's Layout workspace. The rendering is CPU-based and requires no particular graphics card. It saves rendered files in standard LightWave image formats and uses floating point computations for formats like Cineon and OpenEXR. It saves R, G, B and A channels. Video demonstrations of FPrime are available on Worley's Web site.

FPrime is available now for Mac OS X and Windows for an introductory price of $279 through March 16, after which it will sell for $399. It supports LightWave 7, 7.5 and 8.
