Maya developers to work alongside West Coast entertainment production facilities
San Antonio Siggraph (booth 13085) July 22, 2002 Alias|Wavefront�, an SGI (NYSE: SGI) company, announced today that it is launching a new custom engineering service. Inspired by a long-term relationship with DreamWorks� Animation, the Custom Development Center will be made up of highly skilled Alias|Wavefront Maya� software developers able to engineer custom Maya extensions and new workflow tools for the high-end 3D industry. The Southern California based Custom Development Center will be a for-hire facility available to West Coast film and game production facilities using Maya.
DreamWorks Animation's relationship with Alias|Wavefront has been strengthened by a three-year commitment to use the facility as a resource. "DreamWorks is very excited to draw from the services of a Custom Development Center focused on Maya. We go into our future projects knowing that our creative goals will challenge our technical boundaries, and Alias|Wavefront welcomes those types of challenges," states DreamWorks Animation Director of Software, Jim Mainard. "Having direct, ongoing access to the software development expertise of this talented team is expected to improve our production pipelines while meeting our business and artistic objectives."
"The mandate of the Custom Development Center team is to provide long-term custom engineering support for those production facilities where Maya plays a central role in the CG pipeline," states Kevin Smith, director of the newly formed Custom Development Center. "Through direct modification of the Maya source code the team is able to engineer new features and extensions to Maya, assist with production pipeline integration, and provide custom technology innovations for our customers."
