IRIDAS to Support AMD Opteronsfor High-End Post Applications
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Wed Dec 10 2003
Munich, Germany - December 10, 2003 - IRIDAS, a leading innovator of high-performance Digital Intermediate solutions for the film, broadcast and digital content creation industries has announced that they will develop a new class of IRIDAS FrameCycler applications for AMD's 64-bit Opteron processing environment. Already noted for their speed, the new FrameCycler applications will take full advantage of the increased bandwidth of the new systems. In addition, users will benefit from the Opteron processor's increased RAM capacity. These developments represent another step forward in the quest to bring digital artists and facilities ever more powerful tools at lower costs.

The new 64-bit processors feature a scalable bus system which will improve performance by reducing I/O bottlenecks, and a new memory controller to significantly reduce memory latency. For FrameCycler users this will mean even greater responsiveness of the application and its numerous playback control tools. AMD Opteron processors can use up to 16 GB of random access memory which will mean a considerable performance boost for FrameCycler Professional, IRIDAS' industry-leading real-time RAM player.

"The increased RAM will mean that FrameCycler Professional an now play up to 40 seconds of 2K sequences at full speed," said Michael Gallo, IRIDAS VP of product development. "Only a few years ago there wasn't even a way to play any_ material at that resolution."

"We know that the less you notice our software in your work, the better a job it is doing," said Lin Sebastian Kayser, IRIDAS CEO. "It has become a clich in our industry, but for our customers the real impact of these performance improvements will be that they can focus even more on their work, and less on the technology."

In addition to FrameCycler Professional, IRIDAS will be offering Opteron-enhanced versions of the FrameCycler DDS direct-from-disk playback applications, FrameCycler 3D, and SpeedGrade, IRIDAS' soon-to-be-released color grading application. The new versions of these applications will be available in the spring of 2004.
