 Digimation Ships USA Collection of 3D Terrains and Maps Posted by: amigo

New Orleans, LA - Oct. 29, 2003 - Digimation has announced it is shipping 3D USA, a collection of 48 detailed 3D terrain models and satellite maps of the continental United States.
The models, which come in Maya (.mb), 3ds max (.max), .3ds and .obj formats (all on a single CD), are detailed yet polygon-efficient. Unique polygon reduction techniques remove unnecessary polygons in constant-slope regions while preserving polygons in rough terrain areas. Boundary vertices in adjoining models match perfectly, allowing seamless fits between neighboring states.
"This is the most detailed collection of US states and texture maps available," said David Avgikos, President of Digimation. "Each 3D model comes complete with five detailed color and grayscale satellite maps which mesh perfectly with the terrain of the models."
TruEarthT 1km satellite imagery, elevation-colored, and grayscale shaded relief maps are included for use as texture, bump and displacement maps with the corresponding 3D models to provide compelling detail and coloring in the final rendering.
