Alias: New Easy Access Program for Schools and Students
Posted by: amigo
Source: Press Release
 Date: Tue Jul 29 2003
San Diego, CA - SIGGRAPH July 29, 2003 Alias Systems, a Silicon Graphics Inc., (NYSE: SGI) company, announced today extensive changes to its North American and European education program for both schools and students. Alias, a leader in working with education institutions to provide software to students, has revised the program to offer a full learning solution for educators and students. Schools can now access affordable learning packages, which include software, support, self-paced Alias Learning Tools and Alias merchandise; students and graduates are now eligible for a permanent software licensing option that extends beyond graduation.

As an important part of the new program, students, graduating students and faculty are eligible to purchase seats of Maya and rent StudioTools software at special education rates. Our revised program is focused on adding value to our schools and student community and offering them affordable solutions, comments David Della-Rocca, channel marketing manager at Alias. We also listened to the student community who asked for easier access to permanent seats to provide a bridge into the professional world. We expect this will accelerate the trend of more schools offering Maya and StudioTools instruction to their students in a variety of academic and vocational disciplines.

The support that Alias has provided for our college has been superb. I had been using another 3D software package since 1992 but from the experience Ive had with Alias I have converted my animation program solely to Maya, says Michael Kappers, program manager, Digital Arts & Media at Seminole Community College. Having software, learning materials and support in one package makes my job as an educator that much easier and the students loved all the extras like t-shirts and posters. The excitement of my students for learning Maya was immediate and brings a sense of renewed energy to our program.

Software Purchase Options Offer Easy Access
In developing the new program, Alias focused on offering affordable, easy access options. The resulting program is highly flexible, with three choices of software licensing for schools: standalone license, volume license and rental license.

The standalone license option, for schools requiring less than 10 seats, offers educators the opportunity to purchase additional software and learning resources at education discounts.

The volume license option, for schools requiring more than 10 seats, includes one-year of education maintenance (technical support, software updates and upgrades). Volume licensees also receive education discounts on additional Alias solutions, including software, education maintenance, self-paced Learning Tools and instructor-led training materials.

The rental license option offers educators access to temporary software licenses for 30, 60, 90 or 120 days in North America and 12 months in Europe, Middle East and Africa. All rental licenses include technical support for the term of the rental.

Students and faculty can now purchase permanent licenses of Alias Maya Complete and Alias Maya Unlimited or temporary (12-month) licenses for StudioTools and Alias AutoStudio. The revised student and faculty program also allows graduating students the option to convert their existing student license to a commercial license at a reduced rate.

E=MC Promotions Kick Off New Program

As part of the kickoff for the new program, Alias is launching its E=MC2 promotion. Educators and students can take advantage of special, limited-time offers on Maya Complete, Maya Unlimited, Alias Studio and AutoStudio solution bundles. With these promotions, educators and students can access software, support* and self-paced Learning Tools at special introductory prices. For full details, please visit www.alias.com/education.

* First-year maintenance offered only to licenses of 10+ seats. Maya Incident Support packages are offered.
