New Version of Behavior from Softimage Posted by: amigo Source: Press Release Date: Fri Apr 04 2003 Montreal, Quebec, Canada--Apr. 04, 2003-- Softimage Co. announced the next version of its revolutionary behavior animation tool SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR v.1.1. Featuring support for Linux and many enhancements to the API, this latest version of the SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR system makes integration with a wide variety of 3-D production pipelines dramatically easier and will further facilitate the development of unique behavioral simulations. The SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR v.1.1 software, which is currently in beta testing, is scheduled for release in June 2003.
With this latest version, the SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR system is poised to become the tool of choice for virtually any project requiring the creation of intelligent characters and realistic 3-D animated crowds that behave in a natural and believable way. Already used in production in a major TV series (Napoleon) and high profile commercial work (Coors, Dollar Bank), the SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR system has also generated significant interest in pre-visualization and simulation for emergency response, urban planning, defense, training and factory layout.
The SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR software provides users with the ability to quickly and efficiently create intelligent characters and choreograph realistic 3-D animated crowds with a multitude of people, animals or objects and is capable of responding intuitively to objects, other characters or changes in their environment.
SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR is already proving that creating high-quality, realistic scenes involving hundreds or even thousands of creatures or moving objects is no longer limited to film and TV productions with very large budgets, comments Michael Stojda, managing director of Softimage. More and more production teams are realizing that SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR is the best solution for creating sophisticated crowd shots on time and budget.
The SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR v.1.1 system also features a direct pipeline to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI application, the industrys leading 3-D nonlinear production environment, which is also available on Linux. When used together, a highly efficient pipeline can be produced in which animated characters created in the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment can be exported directly into the SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR crowd simulation engine using Softimages widely supported dotXSI file format. Final simulations can then be rendered using all of the features of the SOFTIMAGE|XSI program and mental ray technology.
