Houdini Apprentice is based on the same powerful procedural modeling and animation components in the full Houdini application that recently garnered a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Since it was released in July of 2002, the Houdini Apprentice program has introduced a new generation of 3D artists to the power and flexibility of Houdini's procedural workflow. The pre-release of Houdini Version 6 is available now, with the final shipping candidate anticipated by the end of April 2003. Houdini Version 6 offers important features and workflow enhancements, such as tools for creating, publishing and managing Houdini digital assets into existing production environments, improved character animation tools, global illumination rendering, interactive light and camera controls, and an embedded help browser which is able to run interactive training material written using Houdini's internal scripting language.

Jason Busby of 3D Buzz (www.3dbuzz.com) will also be offering free training via an on-line video tutorial on Houdini Version 6 workflows. Busby's extremely popular Houdini 101 course currently has several thousand users enrolled. Busby recently released a second set of Houdini tutorial videos focused on character animation and is looking forward to helping introduce Version 6 to the growing Apprentice community.

Select winning projects will be awarded a range of prizes, including an HP XW4000 workstation, ATI Fire GL X1 cards and Houdini commercial licenses.
