Seneca College brings traditional and computer animation together for
first time in Canadian diploma program.

Toronto, March 6, 2003 Building on a strong reputation for producing leading graduates in 3-D computer animation, gaming and visual effects, Seneca Colleges School of Communication Arts is introducing a new program that answers the call for animators trained in both traditional and computer animation.

Beginning fall 2003, the new animation program provides students with two years of traditional animation followed by one year of computer animation training.

Students now have a seamless path to a career in animation at one post-secondary institution, says Larry DeFlorio, Co-ordinator, Seneca College Digital Media Centre. Whether they choose to pursue a classical animation career or one utilizing their computer skills, they will have received the foundation critical to success in both.

As Canadas first blended animation program, incorporating both disciplines in animation, this new three-year diploma will teach students the artistic application of the theories of motion, timing and storytelling, and allow them to gain experience with the industrys most current technology. Major components include post-production, lighting, compositing, editing and rendering, as well as life drawing, layout, history of film and history of animation.

Seneca Colleges Digital Media Centre (DMC) offers advanced specialized training in digital media environments. The DMC operates 24 hours a day, year round, offering programs in three distinct areas: 3-D gaming, 3-D character animation and compositing and visual effects. Students learn on the latest in high end industry software.
The new animation program will bring leaders in traditional animation to the DMC, and will be housed in the colleges new state-of-the-art Technology Enhanced Learning Building. For more information on the Animation program go to http://www.dmc3d.com/index.html

Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology is the largest college in Canada with more than 100,000 full and part-time students on campuses across the Greater Toronto Area. Seneca provides internationally and nationally recognized career education and training key to graduate success in the global economy. Every Seneca diploma, certificate and bachelors degree program is developed to a high academic standard, in consultation with industry, integrated with information technology, combined with technical and transferable skills, and reinforced by opportunities for ongoing education and re-training.
