SAN FRANCISCO - January 10, 2003 -- Animation software developer Kaydara announced at Macworld Expo the immediate availability of FBX for QuickTime, a free realtime viewing solution that supports content from any major 3D program. FBX for QuickTime allows users to easily view 3D content regardless of operating platforms.
"Until today, there has been no easy way to visualize and interact with 3D content," said Michel Besner, president. "Producers and artists seeking to validate 3D content have been forced to purchase software to view or render their 3D files. Our goal with FBX for QuickTime is to expand our 3D technology to make a real-time 3D pipeline available to all digital artists."

Combined with QuickTime Pro, FBX for QuickTime provides digital artists with a new media type for authoring, allowing them to combine and composite 3D with video, audio, and images from all supported QuickTime formats.

"QuickTime is the best technology for the playback and delivery of rich digital media content on Mac or Windows," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's VP of Worldwide Developer Relations. "FBX for QuickTime allows 3D artists to view content from major 3D packages and save a tremendous amount of time in their production workflow."

"FBX for QuickTime has been tremendously useful in the creation of our current film short," said Alex Lindsay, of dvGarage. "Before FBX for QuickTime, we had to render out all of our animations in order to preview them. Using FBX for QuickTime, we have a strong solution for previewing and approving content at any point during our production."

The FBX for QuickTime component is available from Apple's Web site at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/components.html. Kaydara FBX is a platform-independent 3D authoring and interchange format that provides access to 3D content from all major 3D vendors and platforms. FBX is a binary file format that supports all the major 3D data elements, as well as 2D, audio, and video media elements. FBX can be used as an interchange format between 3D modeling/animation/rendering packages, 3D scanners (hardware), 3D content providers, motion capture systems, camera tracking systems, and other applications. Used for over five years in production studios worldwide, FBX has proven itself a versatile, accurate, and dependable authoring and data transfer format.
