After a web campaign to purchase out the rights to Blender 3D suite and thanks to contributions from many individuals and entities, Blender Foundation was able to collect sufficient funds and we now have the fruits of that campaign - free source code to Blender, with the current version 2.25b freely available to anyone.
Blender is a cross plaform 3D creation suite, allowing fully integrated modeling, animation, rendering, post production and interactive 3D creation and playback.
Blender Foundation in short:
goal 1: Make the sources free
goal 2: Establish artist/coder services
goal 3: Make Blender a better product, and promote free access to 3D technology in general
