Source: Press Release
 Date: Thu Oct 10 2002
With the formation of D2 Software, Digital Domain plans to provide high-end digital production software for Windows, Linux and IRIX Platforms, based upon their proprietary technologies developed throughout the past ten years.
A moment many have waited for, and hopefully we'll see more of the "big guys" doing this ie. opening their tools to the public.

VENICE BEACH October 7, 2002 Digital Domain announces the formation of D2 Software, Inc., a new wholly-owned subsidiary that will develop, market and support digital image processing software based upon the proprietary technology developed by Digital Domain over the last decade. The Company expects to help the digital artist community push the creative envelope through cutting-edge software products and unparalleled customer support.

"Over the past nine years, Digital Domain has developed an exceptional suite of software tools that has enabled us to create cutting edge visual imagery for our feature film and commercials clients," comments Digital Domains Chairman and CEO Scott Ross. "Weve won two Academy Awards for the technical merit of our software, and its now time to make these tools available to the industry."

Brad Call, Digital Domains Chief Operating Officer, and Michael Taylor, Digital Domains VP, Digital Studio, will lead a dedicated staff of development and support personnel who have championed Digital Domains in-house development efforts over the past years and will continue their efforts within the new company.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Digital Domain," states Call. "The response to our entry into the software market has been incredibly supportive. We are committed to offering a compelling suite of visual imaging tools and technical support that will create the highest value for our customers."

Flagship Product Ready for Distribution

The flagship of the new companys software line will be NukeTM, Digital Domains Academy Award winning compositing software that operates on NT, Linux and IRIX platforms. "As a nodal-based compositing solution, Nuke is more advanced than anything currently available on the market," notes Taylor. "It has been used on every feature film on which Digital Domain has worked from True Lies to Titanic to Triple X, and it is becoming an ever more valuable tool to our commercials production group. The general availability of tools like NukeTM can only serve to make our industry stronger."

Nuke 3.0 Availability

D2 Software will make Nuke 3.0 available immediately to interested clients, and will announce new product availability in the coming year. Customers interested in sales, evaluations and demonstrations should contact the sales group at D2 Software as indicated below or at [email protected].
