Houdini Halo is a full featured compositing and effects software featuring interactive handles, deep raster support, floating point plane support, animatable parameters, multiple views, full non-linear architecture, optimization for large image formats (IMAX and HDTV) and more...

Toronto, ON (Oct. 02, 2002) -- Side Effects Software today announced shipment of Houdini Halo, the company's new stand-alone compositing and image effects application. The most recent addition to the Houdini product family, which also includes Houdini Master, Houdini Select and Houdini Mantra, Houdini Halo is the most flexible and cost-effective compositing solution available to professional artists working within widely used Windows NT, Linux, IRIX and Solaris-based environments. The product is now in distribution at a list price of US$2,999.

"We are very excited to see Side Effects Software come to market with a full-function compositing and effects editing solution," said Jim Mainard, Head of Software for DreamWorks Animation. "Houdini Halo fills an important industry need for a high-end film compositor for Linux."

Built around a fully nonlinear, node-based and procedural workflow, and over ten years of research and development experience, Houdini Halo delivers Windows, Linux, IRIX and Solaris users an extensive set of standard compositing functions, while also introducing breakthrough new levels of extensibility and openness through such innovations as deep raster support and the ability to incorporate custom-built composite operations and effects without writing code. These features, along with animatable visual handles, optimized 2D and smart tiling algorithms, a multi-threaded architecture and optimization to handle even the largest film, IMAX and other large-format image resolutions with ease, make Houdini Halo a superlative choice for effects compositors who require power, precision and productivity.

"With Houdini Halo, we are pleased to respond to industry demands, both in terms of the platform options and feature requirements, while enhancing flexibility and value," said Tony Cristiano, General Manager, Side Effects Software US. "The rich toolset within Houdini Halo provides the artist with leading capabilities, animation control and the necessary interoperability to integrate well into all existing pipelines."

Houdini Halo is designed to work either as a stand-alone program or in tandem with the rest of the Houdini family, which offers artists of all levels scalable solutions to address their specific animation and visual effects needs. As with all Houdini products, floating licenses work across all supported platforms including Windows (32 and 64-Bit Editions), Linux (32 and 64-Bit Editions), Solaris and IRIX.
